Want to stand out to recruiters and land your next dream job? Discover six essential tips to optimize your LinkedIn profile and increase your chances of success.
Recruiters start with the basics
When a recruiter or hiring manager is tasked with finding a candidate to fill a position they start with the basics: location, title, education, and skills/job functions. If you don’t match the basics, they won’t go any further.
Relevant Skills and Certifications
Showcase your expertise and qualifications that align with in-demand roles. Have you compared the skills requirement to the skills in your profile? Including certifications, software proficiencies, soft skills and technical skills. Ask yourself, what do you solve with your skills?
Rank higher with these tips for getting ideal skills in your profile.
NOTE* A LinkedIn premium subscription offers features to help hone in on skills faster.
Quantifiable Achievements
Highlight specific accomplishments with measurable results, add key accomplishments to ABOUT section and specifics under appropriate EXPERIENCE sections. For example, “Increased sales by 20% through effective lead generation strategies.”
“Successfully led 4 cross-functional teams through implementation of new software programs companywide which we competed ahead of schedule”
Recommendations
When a recruiter is on the fence with competing candidates, they look at recommendations both received and given. How new & relevant are they? Who provided the recommendation?
Professional Network
Demonstrate your connections within your industry. Highlight any memberships, affiliations, or endorsements from respected professionals.
Use your network connections for warm introductions to a prospective company connection. Six degrees of separation is alive and well on LinkedIn – learn how to leverage your professional network.
Active Engagement
No longer can you remain a LinkedIn lurker! You want to showcase your engagement on LinkedIn.
Share relevant content, participate in discussions, leave comments on other people’s posts, and join industry-related groups to demonstrate your interest and knowledge.
Lastly, reach out to recruiters via InMail. (Available with premium subscriptions). Recruiters expect to be contacted, to ensure you get a response, be short, to the point, and don’t contact until your profile has been optimized.
